I normally like to avoid political conversation, since if you're my friend you probably already agree with me, and if you don't I'd like to continue to like you despite that. But this caught my eye and lays bare something that I've been gritting my teeth over whenever the McCain campaign goes there.

She decided today that she wanted shorter hair, and even started the process herself with the sharpest pair of embroidery scissors I have. She didn't do much damage, but I figured why not? It'll grow back. So she showed me exactly where to cut and voila!
She looks so much like Oliver now it's almost not funny. But she kept smiling at herself in the mirror exclaiming, "I'm beautiful!" Who can argue with that?

I got it into my head to make my own cheese. Hence my very first batch of curds and whey:

That takes a while, and after that I have to wait a few more days before waxing, and a few months for it to age. But I am excited! It was pretty easy frankly, and I'm looking forward to doing it again with the really fresh raw milk you can buy at the farmers market. I am thinking (again) about how to cut one of the steps out of the food we purchase. Instead of the milk being trucked the the cheese factory and then to me, it can come straight to me an I can make the cheese. Or course, it's may be outweighed by the fact I had the mold and rennet and a cheese book sent to me. But this was much more fun than buying it!
I also got it into my head to forgo the guest room and make it my office.
Finally a space to clutter up that's not smack in themiddle of the house (the dining room).
It's our first day of school tomorrow-Oliver's first day of first grade to be exact. He can't decide if he's excited or scared stiff! Wish him luck!

Well, no, technically not. But figuratively, it's very accurate. My computer, over night, melted. I tried to find a picture of a computer with it's innards oozing out of it's ears, but no dice. . I lost all my writing for the last 20 years. all of it. a lot of my music. all my emails with all the pictures people have emailed me including the one with the picture of my sister and the unicorn softie i made her that I have saved for the last forever years. some of my pictures (thank god most of them were backed up) and years and years of clip art, and my book binding template including the copy of alice in wonderland in which I had imported over a hundred illustrations and formatted the whole thing including the poem so it drained down the page the way it does in the old ones and I have been meaning to print it page by page properly but never finished it and now its gone. that too.
And all my pdf sewing/knitting/crochet/general craft patterns I have downloaded over the past few years.
bleh.
seriously bad morning, if anything else were going at all badly it would crush me, but Obama's still ahead in the polls despite the palin speech and work is going great and the new school year is already exciting and satisfying even though they haven't started yet and I just had a great weekend with my parents and oliver let me cut his hair so it looks really cute......so there's not much else to complain about.
But back up your computers folks. seriously.
