One down, one toe go

Corny, but I have spent way too much brain power today trying to think of a good title for this post. So, the main event, my first ever sock!

Here's a complete view:

And the view of the baggy heel:

yes , it's too big, but I love it. I may gently felt it, but only if the other one ends up the same size. I have 9 days to get the other one finished-wish me luck, this is for the gold.

So I have managed to finish a couple of other projects this week. I made a bag for my friend's birthday:

It has one of those snappy wire closure things, which lends it an air of professional finishing. I'm actually very proud of it, and I was more than happy to give it to my friend. I did however, use the scraps from the bag to make a much needed needle holder for me:

Sorry the picture is so dark. It's backed with more of the old navy sweater that I used on the project that started me on this whole blogging journey, my wee wonderful (see horribly outdated photo album).

So, I have not been participating in the "corners of my home" project from soule mama (soulemama.typepad.com) because I have yet to really feel at home in this house. I love it, and appreciate so much about it, but that sense of connection isn't there yet. Probably because it is the 5th house I've lived in in 5 years, which is why I've vowed not to move again for another 5 years, in an attempt to stretch the average out to 2 years in each place. Anyway, I realized that if there is one niche I am excited about, it's this one in my craft room:

This is a simplicity sewing pattern storage unit that I picked up at a Value Village when I lived in Portland, oregon (oh the thrifting I left behind!). I have made my husband help me move it year after year, no small feat in itself. It used to hold junior novels when I was teaching, and now it holds my fabric. You have no idea how big a deal it is that the drawers now look like this:

With a little spill over on a nearby shelf:

And on my craft table-fat quarters waiting to be folded and added to a drawer.

I feel a little sheepish, maybe I should trying making something from all this stuff. Anyway, back to my socks-wish me luck!

great bag-and did i know you lived in portland? yeah...lots of good thrifting up here...

That is a seriously impressive fabric stash, not to mention the actual recepticle and organisation. That's what I think about doing all the time, but never get around to doing it. My craft room looks like a bomb hit it. I can't see the floor....

i just found your blog and have been having fun looking through your past entries. i'm envious of your fabric stash!!

Wow! I am drooling over your stash. Nice!
